Weird day

Very weird day overall – as I was involved in a bit of road rage, my ex-wife was almost killed and then I witnessed an accident. Good night. zzzzzzzzzzz

Tolerate this…

I used to be the kind of person who gave people endless chances. I’ve learned  that  overall people suck, and not in a good way. I no longer will tolerate lies, stories or bull shit in general. I know who my real friends are – and they are the only ones who really matter!!

Here is a great song that describes how I’m feeling right now! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMt1BNeRH-8

Poop in the year 1000.

I’m currently reading the book The Year 1000, “What life was like at the Turn of the First Millennium” There was a chapter about a particular life function that most people don’t really care to think about, so I thought I would share an excerpt from the book for you to enjoy:   August was the month when flies started to become a problem, buzzing round the dung heaps in the corner of the farmyard and hovering over the open cesspits of human refuse that were located outside every house. If the late 20th century is scented with gasoline vapour and exhaust fumes, the year 1000 was perfumed with shit. Cow dung, horse manure, pig and sheep droppings, chicken shit – each variety of excrement had its own characteristic bouguet, from the sweet smell of the vegetable eater, to the acrid edge of gut processed meat, reguiring the human nose of the year 1000 to functionas a considerably less prissy organ than ours today.

Hopefully, this will give you some insight, into what one might have smelled during your daily excursions out and  about in a village in the year 1000, and also hopefully an appreciation for indoor plumbing!!

Dyson Air blade = worthless..

Roughly a year ago or so my place of employment decided that is would be “economical” to replace the paper towels that dried our hands perfectly fine with the Dyson airbalde. (for those unfamilair with this rather worthless hand dryer I’ve added a link :http://www.dysonairblade.com/homepage.asp) It’s stated upon said device  that it’s the fastest and most hygenic hand dryer around. Well, I’m sure it’s possible that it might cost less to operate this particular dryer than other hot air dryers, that is about where the benifets end.

Not only does the water stagnant in a pool along the bottom, which can’t be to hygienic, you repeatily have to insert and remove your hands , yet for some reason it never feels like your hands are any dryer. So in conclusion, neither is the air blade fast or hygienic, and actually might be worthless.

Who goes there??

Ever since I can remember I’ve always been interested in  ghosts , aliens and cryptozoology. I can remember sitting as a young boy at my grandmothers’s house looking at this amazing book about gnomes, trolls wood sprites and such . I suppose that may have sparked some interest, as I’ve never looked back and to this day I’m still interested in all things paranormal.

Sadly, I lost my mother last May to lukemia,  however since then I’ve become much more spiritual and actually had a few paranormal experiences in the last year or two.  I mustered up the courage to  share these stories with Jim Harold from the paranormal podcast on his campfire show this past month. So hopefully you’ll take the time to listen to my tales and look around his site, as there are so many great stories just waiting to be heard:

Happy B-day Jesus!!

February 28, 2010 Leave a comment

Seeing as tomorrow is the first day of March (My second favorite month next to October, look for many Halloween blogs the closer we get to said month) I thought It would be appropriate to  to wish Jesus a happy birthday, now technically no one really knows the exact day, however all signs point to March being more accurate,  so yes thats right, he wasn’t  born in December at all… let me explain..

The only reason that Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus on 12/25 wasn’t out of any proof of his birth being in that month , the real reason was that they didnt want to be upstaged by some pagans.  Saturnalia was a tradition inherited by the Roman pagans from an earlier Babylonian priesthood. December 25 was used as a celebration of the birthday of the sun god, as it was observed near the winter solstice.

The apostles in the Bible predicted that some Christians would adopt pagan beliefs to enable them to make their religion more palatable to the pagans around them. Therefore, some scholars think the church chose the date of this pagan celebration to interest them in Christianity.

Not only do we get to look forward to the first day of Spring, and St Patrick’s day (and 2 b-days of ex-girlfriends, and 1 ex-wife on my end) we can now also add the birth of Jesus. I’m definitely looking forward to getting some presents, and should probably start looking for that perfect tree!!

Photography studio..

February 27, 2010 1 comment

I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and today is no different. I recently became an ordained minister for no other reason really  then to make some extra money on the side as a wedding officiant. I’ve also done photography in the past, weddings, bar-mitzvahs and the like, so I thought this would be something beneficial to add to my resume.

Strangely enough, there is a good change that myself and another photographer will be opening a studio here in Cumberland on Mendon road. I’m very excited about this prospect; as it could work out as a one stop shop of sorts, as we will also most likely be partnering up with a DJ. I’ll be looking at the space soon , and should have some more exciting news and info to come!!

PS: Some of the work of a photography group I belong to will also be shown at a local business here in Cumberland, I’ll have more on that as well..

Going Forward.

February 27, 2010 Leave a comment

To set the stage and seeing as this is the first entry, I should introduce myself. My name is Neil, I’m 32 and live in Cumberland, Rhode Island. – You can also follow me on twitter @ https://twitter.com/Neil_J_Carter

I recently decided to keep a  journal,  for those who know me personally my hand writing is not the neatest, and sometimes I even have trouble figuring out what I wrote ,so needless to say I gave up on that idea. Hopefully this will be a  medium in which I can use to look back on days, thoughts and memories that often fade overtime.

So, with that being said, hopefully you’ll find some of my collected thoughts and rants amusing enough to follow along on a somewhat regular basis..

Never give up on something you can’t stop thinking about.

February 27, 2010 4 comments

Someone once told me that you should never give up on something, or someone you can’t stop thinking about. In this particular instance it’s both. On one hand there is a certain person I really can’t stop thinking about, and haven’t since I met her two years ago. Unfortunately, at this point there isn’t really much that I can do about that situation, except wait and see how things unfold, and if it was meant to be or not.

Then the other part to this isn’t really so much something, but somewhere. Living in Rhode Island I’ve increasingly felt disconnected from the state that I’ve called my home for  the last 32 years. There are many pros living in this part of New England, however overall I feel a bit suffocated, and often dream of more open space and room to breath.

I’ve traveled around the country and always found myself drawn back to New England, so I’m more than positive I wish to remain here. There is a city  right in my backyard so to speak, that in my opinion takes what’s best of a small town and conveniences of a city and combines it into a very live-able community.

The place I speak of is Burlington Vermont, located on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain, this 4 hour drive from my (current) home just might be what I’m looking for… Not only have I found the amazingly beautiful scenery to be most agreeable . I’ve found the people to be open, friendly and talkative, the exact opposite of just about everyone I meet  here in this part of the north east.

I hope that in time things might work out where where I can stand there on the waterfront, and gaze across the lake and look  upon the Adirondacks whenever I want, and not have to dread the 4 hour trip back to a place I really don’t feel I belong..
